Initially this interview with Jim Mellon was scheduled to be a chat about this year’s Master Investor show.
This conversation does indeed reference the U.K.’s largest investor show which the visionary entrepreneur will be speaking at, but Mellon also reveals quite a lot about the U.K. market which he says offers investment opportunity and he backs this up with fact and cold analysis.
He speaks as an investor who has lost and made small fortunes as he anticipates the next investment trend and backs the established enterprises that continue to reward stakeholders.
“The U.K. is an undervalued market,” says Mellon who argues that it’s a very outward looking market in the sense that many of the major companies in the U.K. derive a lot of their income from overseas.
He also reminds investors that “the U.K.” is a big dividend producer. “The U.K. market on average is producing somewhere over 4% in dividends which is way higher than most other markets around the world.”
“What will happen is either there’ll be a greater recognition of the merits of U.K. shares in particular financial services shares, commodity producers, producers of things like drinks. Diageo is a good example of that, or some of these companies will get acquired by private equity which is sitting supposedly on very large amounts of money and looking for opportunities. So we’re going to see a lot of corporate acquisition activity over the next year.”
While gold, longevity, cellular agriculture and Juno his dog and muse of his children’s books has preoccupied Mellon, as Jim explains in this video with Sarah Lowther, his current thesis is nuclear fusion which he’ll no doubt be articulating in great depth at this year’s show.
