Immense promise for cashed up Poolbeg Pharma
“…With a clear strategic vision and a very talented team Poolbeg Pharma is on course to drive long term value…”
The annual results released by biopharmaceutical company Poolbeg Pharma highlighted the pipeline, the personnel hires and the expansion potential of its signature asset POLB 001.
Since that release, the pipeline has potentially got bigger with an option agreement to acquire an orphan drug candidate for Behçet’s Disease which causes chronic inflammation or swelling in the body’s blood vessels and neurological complications from the condition can cause a stroke.
So the candidate meets Poolbeg’s criteria of developing and commercialising innovative medicines targeting diseases with a high unmet medical need. The team at Poolbeg have 12 months to do a due diligence deep dive, and while it’s early days since the agreement with Silk Road Therapeutics was announced, Poolbeg CEO Dr Jeremy Skillington describes the candidate as “a very interesting, very exciting asset with really good data.”
Data is gold and the team at Poolbeg are known for their dogged determination to explore, research, research and do more research. Many of the assembled company talent are known for successfully launching similar businesses on the Nasdaq stock exchange, and it’s no coincidence that Poolbeg has appointed Shore Capital as its joint brokers. They too are known for their exposure to biopharmaceutical listings on the U.S. stock exchange and worked closely with the team at recently acquired Amryt Pharma, many of whom are now working at Poolbeg.
The U.S. is important to Poolbeg, not just for access to additional capital, but it’s the home of the FDA – the Food and Drug Administration who are the gate keepers to the world of clinical trials and the fast tracking towards future treatment commercialisation. The Behçet’s Disease candidate already has FDA Fast Track designation.
Poolbeg’s POLB 001 is having success too in the U.S. having been granted an Immunomodulator II patent grant which the company says ‘further strengthens robust intellectual property portfolio for partnering.’
And as Jeremy explains to Sarah Lowther in this interview, POLB 001 has ‘immense promise,’ in a $10 billion market, and the data generation of this key asset is of equal importance to the protection of the company’s innovation.
