The next unicorn lands in London in Q3 2026
Quantum Group. A British company looking to passport globally.
There’s a reason Quantum Group is choosing to list on the main board of the London Stock Exchange in the third quarter of 2026.
By then the FinTech and cyber security investment incubator will be celebrating ten years in the making, will have become a profitable enterprise, and one of its subsidiaries Volopa will have had a year to blossom under new chief executive James Radford who counts CEO of Revolut UK on his CV.
Radford is one of the brilliant hires that Quantum co-founder Peter Malmstrom references when he talks about the culture he has developed; one that is known for its old school customer service values combined with cutting edge technology that is regulated, cyber secure and price transparent.
Malmstrom is keen to articulate Quantum’s differentials. Aside from the personal approach that subsidiaries and its customers enjoy, there’s the emphasis that Quantum isn’t a VC; it buys businesses outright and then sorts out the funding, the compliance and all the high level admin that frees directors to do what they were hired to do – be brilliant, bold and not encumbered by paperwork.
There’s also the long termism that managers are committed to. No swift exits, but dedication to growth and being the Best of British hence the U.K. listing.
As captured in the recent Optimo Capital report, the IPO will see a debt-free entity with a possible billion-pound valuation come to market. “The float gives liquidity in the stock which all of our investors and shareholders want,” says Malmstrom. “It gives us access to things like listed bonds and debt instruments which actually and paradoxically prevent further dilution. So really it’s a mechanism to be able to increase our options, not just for the company, but also for the shareholders.”
As Peter explains to Sarah Lowther in this video interview, Quantum’s growth trajectory will hopefully be a resounding city success story. “If we can help regenerate and rekindle interest in the London market and be a forerunner digital player in that space, alongside companies with stratospheric performance that will certainly put Quantum very much on not just the U.K. map, but the global map.”
