Empire Metals Builds a World-Class Team as Pitfield Heads Toward Resource Estimate

“…at this stage Shaun, with the data you have, is Pitfield commercial…”

While the share price of Empire Metals Limited has come off its record high, at the time of publication, had you put £1000 into the Australian explorer a year ago, you would have seen a 446% increase in your investment and be sitting on £5,462.

Irrespective of recent share price movements, Managing Director Shaun Bunn says very little has changed about the company’s flagship asset – the premium grade titanium Pitfield project which is emerging as “the meteor that’s coming to wipe out the dinosaurs.”

When Bunn talks about dinosaurs he’s referring to a titanium market he says is in disarray and fractured by the re-emergence of Chinese production.  It’s also inextricably linked to ilmenite which is sourced from either hard rock igneous deposits or low-grade beach sand operations and associated with costly, wasteful extraction processes.

Empire’s Pitfield project is a soft rock deposit with ‘the potential to offer a differentiated source of titanium dioxide supply to the industry’ and one that is purer and less costly.

Bunn says the company understands the geology, the mineralogy, the metallurgy and it’s moving towards understanding the marketing with premium hire Michael Tamlin charged with investigating what prospective customers want and utilising his network which includes commodity influencer Mitsui.

Tamlin’s appointment is hot on the heels of recent hires Alan Rubio as engineering study manager and Pocholo Aviso as hydro metallurgist.

“We really have focused on positioning ourselves as having one of the greatest, one of the best teams available,” says Bunn who alongside the collective of assembled industry ‘names’ is aiming to achieve the critical milestone of a mineral resource estimate for Pitfield by October.

As Shaun explains to Sarah Lowther in this video interview, Empire might still dispose of non-core projects which may attract a high gold price premium, and would consider other opportunities if they are sensible. “We’re a mining exploration group as well and we’ve got a great team and we’re always on the lookout for adding value to the shareholders.”
